Quilt project

December 27, 2015

Crochet. It is an addiction.

Now that I am pretty fast and able to interpret most patterns mostly correctly, I just keep going and going.

I made a couple of hats, one for me and three for other people’s Xmas presents. Pattern found here.

This hat was a total improvisation. I tried out a new stitch, the crossed-double stitch (sounds harder than it is) which was quite fun. Pattern here.

But the big project was a granny-square quilt. Inspired by I started in July and finished in November. I mainly used my commute to work to get the squares done. I ended up doing 10 x 17 rows. So it’s not huge, but I haven’t added an edge to I could potentially add to it in the future.

I used a very basic pattern (found here) and opted for a black last round on each square. When it came time for attaching them, I tried a few different stitches but settled on the whip-stitch. I liked the ridge created by only picking up half the stitch.

I love it. It is so beautiful and it is heavy and warm. It has pride of place on our lovely teal couch, so it as much an accessory as it is a practical item.

Little Big Whale

March 2, 2013

This darling whale is the brain child of this amazing bloggess. I thought it would make a sweet baby shower gift for a colleague. The best part is they are made from some old jeans that have seen better days.

Check out her whole blog, her works of art and craft make my heart feel warm inside.

Just so beautiful. And you don’t need to be able speak Finnish to appreciate her work.

Update: I couldn’t help myself, I had make another. This one has some lavender tucked inside so when it gets snuggled, it will waft a lovely lavender scent.

Daddy day

September 2, 2012

Inspired by Pinterst here is this year’s Daddy’s Day present.

I used a mug we already owned and used a permanent black pen to draw on the moustache. I did it free hand and next time I would probably use a template and make it a bit bigger. Then you bake it for 30 minutes at 180C. Should stay on now.

To be a more accurate representation, I should have done a handle-bar moustache actually, but he didn’t seem to mind.

The coupons are just a word document which I then printed, laminated and cut up. I punched holes and used one of those spare keychain circles.

If you would like a copy of the coupons, you can download it here: Coupons

The coupons are of course, customised for this particular daddy. Here is the list of things he got coupons for:
